Richmond, VA, July 24, 2009 -- Hollyport Ventures LLC announced today that its “Augusta Project” has completed the design and demolition phase and is now under construction.
The “Augusta Project” is Richmond’s first LEED for Homes registered project. TheLeadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED®) program is an initiative to promote the transformation of the mainstream homebuilding industry toward more sustainable practices. The LEED for Homes system targets the top 25% of homebuilding practices in terms of environmental responsibility.
Under the direction of architect R. Michael Cross, LEED AP, Hollyport Ventures LLC is rehabilitating a home at 4600 Augusta Ave. in the City if Richmond. The goal of the“Augusta Project” is to renovate this home to meet the Gold certification level of theLEED for Homes program. By doing so, it will demonstrate that high levels of sustainable design are achievable in simple home additions and are accessible to the average homeowner.Although Augusta involves the recycling of an existing structure, the current house was carefully dismantled and is now being rebuilt following LEED for Homes guidelines. A san example, the footing and the core of the insulated concrete form (ICF) foundation walls were built using 30% fly ash concrete. The brick foundation veneer is assembled of bricks reclaimed from the original house. The new addition is being constructed following advanced framing practices.
